Flexion Distraction Decompression for Disc Therapy
If you have issues with back pain, compressed discs, sciatica, or related conditions, your North Las Vegas chiropractor can assist you using Flexion – Distraction / Decompression therapy. Flexion – Distraction / Decompression for disc therapy is a treatment that brings a non-surgical option to patients with these back and spine issues.
The pain of a herniated disc can be debilitating. It impedes quality of life and can cause you to miss out on work and recreational activities. Dr. Todd A. Tomburo of Best Care Chiropractic believes Flexion – Distraction / Decompressionfor disc therapy is the secret to managing back pain, sciatica, and spinal compression issues.
Best Care Chiropractic Brings Non-Invasive Back Pain Relief
Flexion – Distraction / Decompression for disc therapy is a leading form of back, disc, and spinal injury management. Our patients love that it is both non-invasive and effective. Flexion – Distraction / Decompression works by relieving pressure on the discs and facet joints through gentle spinal stretching.
Flexion – Distraction / Decompression for disc therapy is traction based but extremely gentle. A specialized table is used to simultaneously flex and “distract” (stretch) the spine in a gentle, rhythmic, cyclical pumping motion. This slight vacuum effect pulls any herniated disc material back where it belongs so that healing can occur.
Conditions assisted by Flexion – Distraction / Decompression therapy include:
- Spinal disc injuries
- Sciatica
- Extremity Pain
- Sprains and Strains
- Lower Back Issues
- Scoliosis
- Spondylolisthesis
- Spinal Stenosis
- Sacroiliac Syndrome
Spinal manipulation helps to reduce disc pressure and restore range of motion while realigning the spine. This in turn helps to relieve pain, especially chronic and radiating pain (radiculopathy). The relieving of spinal pressure allows the flow of nutrients within the spine to be restored. This facilitates deeper and more rapid healing in the spine as well as any nerves and tissues affected by the injury. The pressure of bulging discs is relieved and inflammation is reduced.
Compression on the nerves is relieved, inflammation is reduced and the source of pain is addressed. Minimal pressure and force is used throughout the process, so the results are achieved without stress or strain to the affected area or the rest of the body.
Because the spine is foundational to the central nervous system, any radiating pain, tingling or numbness in the extremities can also be relieved with Flexion – Distraction / Decompression for disc therapy.
Some of the benefits of Flexion – Distraction / Decompression for disc therapy include:
Relieves Pressure. Pressure inside of bulging spinal discs and spinal nerves is reduced, and the spinal canal is widened.
Safe and Gentle. The pressure and motion used is minimal, which in turn minimizes discomfort.
Restores Movement. Range of motion and mobility are assisted and restored. Movement is restored to the spinal joints.
Corrects Imbalances. The spine can be realigned.
Reduces Pain. With pressure relieved and imbalances corrected, the source of back and extremity pain is addressed at its source.
Flexion – Distraction / Decompression for disc therapy often helps where nothing else will. Contact Dr. Todd A. Tomburo at Best Care Chiropractic for more information or to book an appointment.
In-Office X-Rays Offer Convenience for Patients
Doctors of chiropractic are highly skilled healthcare professionals who use non-invasive diagnostic and therapeutic techniques to help patients from all walks of life achieve whole body wellness. Accurate diagnosis is a critical factor for determining the proper plan of care. It’s also necessary to ensure that the patient’s symptoms will be addressed as well as the underlying cause (or causes) of his or her problem. At Best Care Chiropractic, we offer in-office X-ray imaging to support and enhance our chiropractic care services and help maximize outcomes for the patients who walk through our door.
How X-Ray Technology Can Optimize Chiropractic Care
X-ray imaging uses a small amount of radiation to literally take pictures of the inside if your body. You can see several structures on an X-ray, including bones, joint space, and the alignment of your vertebrae. Keep in mind that the level of radiation exposure from an x-ray is very low and generally considered safe, except for pregnant women (since the radiation may be unsafe for the developing fetus).
D. Todd A. Tomburo uses X-ray imaging for his patients when he feels that having a clearer picture of their spinal anatomy can help guide treatment. We can use X-ray imaging to confirm and more accurately assess known areas of injury or misalignment, but can also use X-ray imaging to identify previously “hidden” areas of dysfunction that may be contributing to a person’s pain or likelihood of injury. X-rays can also be a useful tool for monitoring the progress of a person’s condition and spinal alignment.
Of course, not everybody who comes to see us will need an in-office X-ray, and Dr. Tomburo will be sure to review with you any questions you may have about the imaging technique before it’s performed (if at all). X-rays aren’t painful, and your only task during one is to relax and stay still!
Manual Adjustment
A chiropractic adjustment, also known as a spinal adjustment, is one of the key treatment techniques utilized by a doctor of chiropractic, and for good reason, too! Ample scientific research has shown that chiropractic adjustments can be highly effective for relieving pain and restoring normal function, all without the benefit of drugs or invasive procedures.
At Best Care Chiropractic, Dr. Todd A. Tomburo utilizes adjustments regularly in his practice to help patients of all ages and health backgrounds achieve fast and full healing.
How Does a Manual Adjustment Work?
Chiropractic adjustments can be performed with devices and machines or with the doctor’s hands. When the latter is used, it may be more accurately described as a manual adjustment.
To perform a manual adjustment, Dr. Tomburo directs a specific force (also called “manipulation”) to an area or areas of the spine using his hands. There are several specific methods of chiropractic adjustments, in terms of direction of force, size of force, location of the adjustment, and hand placement of the doctor. The goal of the adjustment will determine which specific method is used.
Contrary to popular belief, you do not have to hear a “popping” or “cracking” sound in order to know if your adjustment worked, and overall this technique is a remarkably safe and effective option for whole body healing.
The Benefits of Manual Adjustments with Dr. Tomburo
There are several proposed reasons how and why chiropractic adjustments work. For one thing, an adjustment can help realign spinal vertebrae that may have moved slightly out of place, due to injury, poor posture, or even stress. By realigning the spinal bones, a chiropractor can help reduce pain, strain, and inflammation on structures in and around the spine, including muscles, ligaments, and nerves.
Adjustments are also believed to have a natural analgesic effect on the body by modulating the way pain signals are sent via the central nervous system. Not only can this reduce a person’s discomfort, but can also improve the brain/body connection.
At Best Care Chiropractic, Dr. Tomburo utilizes the more traditional manual adjustment technique by using his hands to deliver the therapeutic forces. The benefit of this more “old school” approach is that our skilled doctor can get a more thorough feel of your spinal health, and more accurately identify unique areas of restriction and injury, including areas of the spine that may “seem” normal to the naked eye but may actually have minor misalignments that are contributing to dysfunction.
